A SHORT ACCOUNT OF THE VILLANOVA ESTATE |
|
This is a typically Friulian noble country house and has been owned by the de Puppi family since the 15th century within a building which is still standing today, which includes the gentle rise and fall of Villanova, a wide open agricultural plain that is still in tact, with the Julian Alps in the background, and the Colli Orientali, the Collio and the Carso close by. The building which leads onto a courtyard made more attractive by traditional mulberry trees, of which some are centuries old and by other essences, catalogued under the Centro di Catalogazione Regionale di Villa Manin (Villa Manin Regional Cataloguing Centre) also enrolled with the Associazione delle Dimore Storiche Italiane ed alla Associazione delle Ville Venete (Association of Historic Italian Homes and with the Association of Venetian Villas). From the double staircase, to the garret and then to the other opening which faces the countryside behind the house, you can enjoy a magnificent uncontaminated and panoramic view, almost a painting of days gone by. The same aesthetic emotion can be felt from the vast meadow and the central avenue from the “two stones”, which unwinds in the middle of the fields. The Patriarch of Aquileia was chained by the Count of Gorizia to a particular property ( F14 N° 79) on July 20th 1267. For this reason, the property was deconsecrated and excluded from all those who once paid the “quartese”, a tax due to the parish of Villanova. The owner’s home harmoniously finds its place amongst the five exposed stone outbuildings which unwind from the main building and date back to the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, together with the winery and the rural tourism facility building.
Many national and International photo shoots and newspaper reports exist which illustrate the restoration, architecture and the environment of the area and which have focussed on the Villanova estate.
